We’re pleased to send you the mid-April 2008 issue of The Retention Monthly.

Whenever a major employer shops for a new location, the hometown team readies a strong response, as they did recently in Washington D.C., Tacoma WA and Akron OH. Ohio’s capital city of Columbus also faced a similar situation recently and was successful in convincing a major employer to stay and expand. Read more about these business retention opportunities in “Finders. Keepers.” and “Focus on the Customer” in this month’s News.

This issue also includes updates on the auto industry including a new strategy for the Detroit Three that could mean job security at key plants, surprising job growth in Canada and the 2007 winner of Site Selection magazine’s Governor’s Cup tally of new and expanded facilities.

The auto industry is feeling the effects of the economic slump. Overall sales in the U.S. for March '08 were down 12% from the previous March and annual production is expected to decline again in 2008. Even Toyota Motor Corporation is in unfamiliar territory, experiencing declining sales and excess production capacity.

The condition of this key industrial sector leads us to wonder how our readers are impacting the auto industry. Our question this month: Do you plan to purchase a new automobile within the next six months?
